River Ness Flood Scheme - re-commencement of essential works

Work resumes on Monday (7 January) on the utility diversion works required to pave the way for the £24.75 million River Ness Flood Alleviation Scheme in Inverness, which will protect 800 homes and 200 businesses.

The focus will be on Douglas Row and Huntly Street.

Douglas Row will be shut to vehicles from Monday (7 January) for at least a week for essential gas works.  There will be no through road to Bank Street. Alternative parking will be available during the works on Glebe Street and Friars Street.

Residents should park along Friar’s Street and on Glebe Street between Douglas Row and Friar’s Street. During the period of the works, there will be no Pay and Display parking along Friar’s Street.  Parking will not be available on Douglas Row due to the safe working room required for all plant and machinery.

At Huntly Street, utility replacement works will be underway in sections of Huntly Street continuously from Monday (7 January)  until the end of April.  Huntly Street will be closed to vehicles between Greig Street and Celt Street from 7- 22 January. Pedestrians will have access at all times.  There will be no through route for vehicles  from Wells Street to Ness Bridge, but all other sections of Huntly Street will be open to all vehicles and pedestrians will have access at all times.

During the period of the works, there will be no Pay and Display parking along Huntly Street. Parking will be provided for Permit Holder’s only. Permit Holder’s will be able to park along any section of Huntly Street that is open or along adjacent streets. Traffic wardens have been informed and have approved these arrangements.

Collection of refuse bins will be as normal. However, residents are asked that bins be put out for collection in the usual place the night before normal collection day. This will enable Coffey Construction personnel to move the bins to a location that can be accessed by the refuse collection vehicle. Coffey Construction will manage the moving of bins and ensure that they are returned to their correct location immediately after collection.
