Highland Council Leader meets First Minister.
The Leader of The Highland Council Councillor Drew Hendry met with First Minister Alex Salmond today (Friday 18 Jan) to discuss the key issues that are facing the Highlands.
Meeting at Inverness, Council Leader Drew Hendry highlighted the Council’s priorities, giving an update on progress of projects and initiatives throughout the vast area covered by the Council. He confirmed the Council had a number of “shovel ready” projects which could be taken forward with Government assistance.
Councillor Hendry highlighted the damage caused to 24 Highland piers and harbours during the storms of 14/15 December last year. The estimated bill for repair is £2.55 million.
He also focused on the need to find a solution on the A 890 Stromeferry Bypass, between Lochcarron and Kyle, which was closed for two days from Christmas Day due to the latest rockfall.
He said: “The First Minister is no stranger to our area and it was good to again have the opportunity to brief him on the key Highland issues. Our wide-ranging discussion included the many opportunities we have to develop tourism in the Highlands and how best to promote the forthcoming European Tour Scottish Golf Open at Castle Stuart.”
