Skye and Lochalsh secondary schools’ catchment consultations concluded.
Changes to the secondary catchment areas of Portree and Plockton High Schools will come into force from the start of the August 2013 term.
The changes mean that most pupils from the current Kyleakin Primary School catchment will in future transfer to Plockton High School for their secondary education. The community of Kylerhea will become part of the Broadford Primary Primary School catchment, with pupils transferring from there to Portree High School.
Members of The Highland Council’s, Adult and Children’s Service Committee approved the changes today which were recommended following the results of a statutory consultation under the terms of the Schools (Consultation) (Scotland) Act 2010.
Chairman of the Council’s Adult and Children’s Services Committee Councillor Alasdair Christie welcomed the outcome of the statutory consultation: “Following the initial request from parents for this consultation I am pleased with the high level of response and participation in the consultation. We have listened to parents and the local community and have taken into account their comments.”
The consultation was taken forward by the Council following representations from the Kyleakin Primary School Parent Council.
The consultation by The Highland Council ran from Monday 3 September 2012 to Wednesday 31 October 2012. A public meeting was held on Thursday 27 September 2012 at Kyleakin Village Hall.
