Council hails a new Highland ambassador
The Highland Council has written to Phil Mickelson, winner of the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open, to thank him sincerely for being such a marvellous ambassador for the Highlands while playing in the event at Castle Stuart Links.
The world famous golfer played in the event for the third year running and was accompanied by his wife and three children during his stay in the area.
He spoke highly of Castle Stuart Links, it being a perfect venue for preparing for the Open Championship, which opened at Muirfield today (Thursday) and the surrounding area where his family enjoyed holidaying.
Convener Jimmy Gray wrote: “You were a magnificent ambassador for our very special area of the Highlands. As a result of your hugely positive and supportive comments in interviews with the world media, we are certain that many more golfers will make their way to Castle Stuart and to the Highlands to enjoy our outstanding environment.
“The time you took to sign autographs and greet spectators was an example to all sportsmen of the importance of the paying public, who clearly took you to their hearts. We look forward to seeing you again at Castle Stuart Links, when the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open returns in 2016.
“Please accept our gratitude for everything you have done to promote the Highlands. Very many thanks and all the very best for the future and most immediately the Open Championships at Muirfield.”
