Access guide for disabled and older people coming soon to Inverness

Issued by DisabledGo

Thanks to support from The Highland Council and Inverness Access Panel the City and the surrounding 7 wards will soon have its own access guide.

The guide will be produced in partnership with disability organisation DisabledGo, who already produces guides to many other Scottish towns and cities. DisabledGo, founded by wheelchair user Dr. Gregory Burke, has been working to provide better information about access since 2000.

The guide will cover 1000 venues across Aird and Loch Ness, Inverness West, Inverness Central, Inverness Ness-side, Inverness Millburn, Culloden and Ardersier and Inverness South. All 1000 will be visited and assessed by a surveyor who will look at a whole range of accessibility features from parking to accessible toilets. The guide will be available in the Autumn free of charge at www.disabledgo.com and also be featured on www.highland.gov.uk. A shorter guide in booklet format will be produced for people who do not have access to the Internet.

The project has just begun and DisabledGo will be holding a series of information events where people can find out more and give their ideas about what places should be included.

The events will be held at:
