Plans for Beaufort Castle withdrawn

Upon the arrival on site of The Highland Council’s City of Inverness and Area Planning Committee, the applicants requested a deferral on a technicality.  However, before the Committee had an opportunity to formally consider this request, the applicants chose to withdraw the application, thereby bringing the site visit and the meeting to an unexpected close.

A spokesman for the Council said: “Unfortunately, in this case, the application details have always been insufficient. The Planners and the statutory consultees could only base their assessment on the details provided.  Moreover, the concerns raised by the local community remain unanswered. The applicants were repeatedly requested to provide further relevant information which was not forthcoming.

“The Planning Authority has a statutory duty to pay particular regard to developments which affect sensitive environments, including Listed Buildings, and therefore it should be no surprise that the recommendation which was due to be put before the Inverness and Area Planning Applications Committee was to refuse, especially given the lack of information provided by the applicant.”
