Rangers offer family and fitness events

A weekend of fitness and family events is being organised by Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June.

Children are invited to join in “Here Be Dragons” at Farr on Saturday 10th. A sense of adventure is needed as Highland Council’s Countryside Rangers take participants into the forest in search of dragons.

Organised as part of The Highland Council’s Planning and Development Services countryside events programme, ‘Here Be Dragons’ is a fun family event most suitable for children aged 5-12 years.

Mairi Nicolson, seasonal ranger for Inverness said: “We will have a great adventure into the forest, testing our senses and using tracking skills to find these shy and elusive creatures.  Bravery is required, and armour is optional!”

On Sunday 11th June, adults are invited to get fit and enjoy some beautiful countryside and stunning views as they join the Rangers on the Peat Path to Fitness at Abriachan.

This event has been organised by the Council in association with Abriachan Forest Trust.

Mairi Nicolson, seasonal ranger for Inverness said: “We will be walking along the Peat Path undertaking fun activities along the way to learn about the history of the path.  As we do this we will be getting fit, enjoying some great views and hopefully spotting some local wildlife.”

Both events are free but booking is required on both. Transport to the starting point will be organised for the Abriachan walk.  For further information or to book a place telephone: 01463 724 312.

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are a partnership between The Highland Council and Scottish Natural Heritage with the aim of promoting public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and conserving wildlife.
