Badenoch and Strathspey drivers urged to "Go Slow"

Motorists in Badenoch and Strathspey are being warned that new full time 20mph speed restrictions will be introduced at another two schools in the area, for children’s safety.

The new speed limits will come into force at Aviemore Primary on Milton Park, and Newtonmore Primary on Golf Course Road from Friday 9th June, 2006.

This addition brings the total number of schools benefiting from 20mp reduced speed limits in Badenoch and Strathspey to 5 and in Highland to 61 at present.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

Part time 20mph speed restrictions are in place at Grantown, and Kingussie Primaries and Kingussie High School, Badenoch and Strathspey Area.

For further information about the 20mph programme please contact:  Murdo MacLeod, Traffic Technician, Ardross House, 3 Ardross Terrace, INVERNESS 1V3 5NQ Tel 01463 702691.
