New council houses at Carr Brae Dornie
Six new council homes in Dornie are the latest to be completed by The Highland Council as part of a 257-house Highland-wide project supported by the Scottish Government.
The six homes are for rent and consist of a pair of family homes and four cottage flats. They form part of a second phase of affordable housing which was built in partnership with Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association. The Association built nine homes – six for rent and three for sale through a shared equity home ownership model.
Councillor Dave Fallows, Chairman of the Finance Housing and Resources Committee, said: “We are delighted to welcome all the tenants to their new homes at Carr Brae. Finding good quality affordable housing can be difficult, especially in more rural areas, and I am pleased to hear about the close working with the local Housing Association to develop this site. It’s great to have such a large and varied build programme across the Highlands; every new house we build answers someone’s prayer for an affordable, comfortable home which they can call their own”.
Being off-gas, each of the new homes is heated with an air source heat pump and has been built to energy efficient building standards. The development also includes a new play park for the area which is seen as a welcome addition to family life, encouraging healthy Highlanders
The homes were built by Compass with Agent Services supplied by Lochalsh and Skye Housing Association. The Chartered Surveyors were Inverness based Torrance Partnership and the architect was Bracewell Stirling. The cost for the Council’s six units was £660,000 with £180,000 in grant monies from the Scottish Government.
