Convener’s tribute to two staff members killed in separate accidents

The Highland Council Convener Councillor Jimmy Gray opened a meeting of the full council today (7 March) by paying tribute to two members of staff, who died recently in separate tragic accidents.

Mark Phillips an environmental health officer with Transport Environmental and Community Services, based at Fulton House, Fort William died in a climbing accident on Ben Nevis. Mark had worked for the Council for 12 years, having moved to Fort William from England to be nearer his beloved mountains.

Joy Robson,  a nursery assistant at MacDiarmid Primary, Skeabost Bridge, Skye, died when she was struck by a rally car while spectating at the Snowman Rally.  Joy also worked two nights each week in a supervisory role at Portree High School residence.

Councillor Gray said: “These were tragic accidents and our thoughts are with their families.  Both were highly valued members of staff, who will be sorely missed.”
