Lochaber celebrates young people’s contribution to community life

Lochaber Councillors will play host to a civic reception to recognise the valuable contribution young people are making to community life in the area.

Young people will showcase the vast range of activities that they are involved with through their volunteering activity, skills and social development.

Members recognise that these activities not only enrich the life of the young person involved but also the vibrancy of the communities they participate in.

Councillor Bren Gormley, Adult and Children’s Services Committee member said: “The enthusiasm and talents of Highland's young people are an inspiration to us all.  They are the future of the Highlands and deserve all our support and encouragement.”

Stewart Malcolm, Youth Development Officer with High Life Highland is working with youth groups to arrange the exhibition of material which will be displayed during the reception.

Lochaber Provost Councillor Allan Henderson said: “I am delighted to host this civic reception for the youth of Lochaber who make us all so proud to say we come from Lochaber. Our youth are our future and investment at this level will reap rich rewards in the years to follow.”

The Civic reception will take place in the Highland Council Chambers, Lochaber House, Fort William from 6.30 – 8.30pm on Wednesday 27th March 2013.
