A total of 8 Highland community groups are to benefit from two separate community landfill funds.
Five will benefit from The Highland Council’s Community Landfill Fund. They are:
• Avoch and Killen Better Burn Project - £9,000
• Angling Advisory Service for Gairloch and Portree - £10,000
• Dornie Community Play Park - £10,000
• Newtonmore Community Woodland and Development Trust - £10,000
• Physical Learning through Play Activity - £10,000
The Council, as a landfill operator, distributes to Landfill Community Fund to local projects which promote biodiversity conservation and public amenities. The annual distribution total is £80,000.
Three other Highland groups will benefit from the Avondale Community Landfill Fund to develop or enhance children’s play areas.
£10,000 has been allocated to each of the following projects:-
• Firhill Residents’ Association, Alness for new play equipment at the Firhill Play Area;
• South Lybster Residents’ Group for new play equipment and improved pathways;
• Uig Community Trust, Skye, for the upgrade of the local play park.
The allocation of £30,000 completes a distribution of £100,000 from the fund to community projects outwith Inverness. Avondale previously awarded £360,000 towards Inshes District Park, Inverness.
Avondale is the company that landfills the large majority of the Council’s waste.
