Primary 4-7 pupils at Tore Primary recently (Tuesday 23rd April) staged a mass evacuation dressed as WWII evacuees and set off to a mystery destination.

The purpose of the evacuation was to experience first-hand what it felt like for London children to leave their city home and reach the countryside where they would be chosen by local families.

Pupils dressed up in period-character and were suitably equipped with gas masks, identity labels, suitcases and some even with a well-loved teddy.

The secret destination was Resolis Primary where they joined fellow pupils who had also been studying WWII.

Teachers from both schools were in on the act - which was unknown to the pupils of both schools.

The Tore pupils shared their imaginary experiences of life in the Blitz with their new Resolis families, wartime games were played, drama scenarios enacted and wartime snacks enjoyed.

Head teacher Audrey Buchanan said: “The Curriculum for Excellence is all about bringing ‘learning to life and life to learning’ and this was a great opportunity for the pupils of both schools to experience first-hand an evacuation.  In school we aim to build lasting memories and this is sure to be one that will stay with them for a long time.”
