New council houses at Manse Road, Kingussie
Completion of the first new council houses to be built in Kingussie for over 20 years was marked with a ceremony today.
Councillor Dave Fallows, Chair of The Highland Council’s Finance, Housing and Resources Committee and fellow Councillors Jaci Douglas, Bill Lobban and Gregor Rimell welcomed tenants Miss Bobbie Boyd and Mr James Alford into their new home at Manse Road.
The four two-bedroomed new council homes are built on a previously undeveloped and overgrown Council-owned site, which has now been regenerated to offer new homes.
Speaking at the housewarming, Councillor Fallows said: “I am delighted to welcome Bobbie and James to their new family home which will provide them with a wonderful new start, especially with the imminent arrival of their first baby. This comes at a time when building of new homes is challenging and I am especially pleased as these are the first council houses to be built in the area for over twenty years. I wish them a long and happy time in their new home.”
Each of the new homes is heated with air source pumps and is built to energy efficient, low maintenance building standards.
The four two bedroomed units at Kingussie were built by Inverness-based Compass Building and Construction Services Limited, and were designed by the Council’s Design Team. The cost to build these houses was £530,000 with £120,000 in grant monies from the Scottish Government.
