Death of child - Kincraig

Issued by Police Scotland Highlands & Islands Division

Emergency services were called around 02:30 hrs this morning to Loch Inch Outdoor Centre at Kincraig, after an 11 year old girl was found to be unconscious. Attempts were made to resuscitate her but were sadly unsuccessful and she was later pronounced dead at Raigmore Hospital.

The girl was in a party of schoolchildren from Northern Ireland. As a precaution, some of the children who had also been feeling unwell, were examined by a doctor. None of these children had serious symptoms and gave no cause for any concern.

The death is currently being treated as unexplained and a post mortem will be carried out tomorrow.

Her family have been informed.

The parents of all the school children who were at the Outdoor Centre at the time have been informed of the circumstances and reassured that there is no cause for wider concern.
