Out a dawn in Strathspey spotting Otters

The Highland Council Countryside Rangers are inviting people to join them as they creep about in the early crepuscular hours looking for Otters in their favourite habitat at two events taking place in Strathspey on Thursday 17 and Friday 18 October.

Both guided walks start at 7am and last for two hours with a short walk before settling down to wait for the otters to appear. Unfortunately the Rangers cannot guarantee a sighting but they’ll be lots of other birds and animals to enjoy looking at, and listening to, as you watch.

Saranne Bish, The Highland Council’s Countryside Ranger in Badenoch and Strathspey North said: “Dawn is just the best part of the day, an adventure waiting to happen with a real sense of anticipation. Luckily it’s also the best time to watch wildlife as much of it is primarily nocturnal. Both events finish about 9am giving us a good chance to watch any wildlife that may come our way.”

The cost is £5 for adults and £3 for concessions.  Places are limited so please contact the Grantown-on-Spey ranger office on 01479 873 914 to book a place.

The aim of the Highland Council Countryside Rangers is to promote public enjoyment and appreciation of the countryside and to conserve wildlife.
