Corran Ferry fare review to be discussed with the community

A review of fares to be charged on the Corran Ferry, which is operated by The Highland Council between Nether Lochaber and Ardgour on the Ardnamurchan Peninsula, will be the main topic of discussion at a Lochaber South Ward Forum being held on Monday 9 September at the Sunart Centre, Ardnamurchan High School, Strontian. The meeting begins at 6.30 pm.

Sam MacNaughton, Head of Transport and Infrastructure with The Highland Council’s Transport Environmental and Community Services, will give the Ward Forum a preview of the revised schedule of fares before they are presented to the TEC Services Committee on Thursday 19 September for approval.

The Council received an excellent response to the ferry fares consultation held between 3 June and 19 July, which included five public meetings.  More than 80 submissions were received either by e-mail or letter.   A summary outline of each of these responses may be viewed on The Highland Council’s web site at http://www.highland.gov.uk/corran-fares.htm.

The Council consulted over a proposed increase in fares to meet the rising costs of providing the lifeline service, including fuel and annual refits.

A Council spokesman said: “The comments received during the consultation have been most helpful and we have considered these carefully before developing a revised and updated fare structure which will be outlined at Monday’s meeting.  We hope this will have gone some way to meeting the concerns expressed during the consultation and at the same time generate an income that keeps the service viable.”
