Croy school welcomes Comenius visitors from Finland and Spain

Eleven visitors from Europe are visiting Croy Primary school this week under the auspices of the British Council Comenius Programme.

Croy school has been working with partner schools ‘Colegio Giner de los Rios’ in Merida, Spain and ‘Niinivaaran Koulu’ in Joensuu, Finland.

Four teachers and four pupils from Spain and three Finnish teachers are staying with families at Croy.  Staff from Croy Primary have already been to visit both partner schools.

The Comenius Programme has two main objectives:

The partnership project with the schools in Spain and Finland is focussing on a study of myths and legends in the partners’ countries.

Comenius Partnership Organiser, Maria Dominguez of Croy Primary School said: “We hope our Comenius visitors enjoy their visit to the Highlands of Scotland. Later today they be visiting Loch Ness. On Wednesday morning they will be visiting Bun-sgoil Ghàidhlig Inbhir Nis to hear the Gaelic language being spoken and will also visit Culloden Battlefield in the afternoon. Also in the week they shall take in the Highland Folk Museum at Newtonmore and Urquhart Castle on Loch Ness with a ceilidh at Croy school full of Highland craic and welcome.”

The Comenius Programme is named after Jan Amos Comenius (1592-1670), often considered the father of modern education. Comenius is aimed at schools, colleges and local authorities across Europe.
