New provost of Nairn
Highland Councillor Laurie Fraser has been elected to the civic role of Provost of Nairn.
Councillor Fraser takes over from Councillor Liz MacDonald, who stood down as provost following her election last week to the political post of Leader of the Council’s Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee.
Councillor Fraser was elected at a ward business meeting in Nairn on Monday.
He has had a previous spell as provost between 2010-2012.
A local businessman, Councillor Fraser has served on The Highland Council, representing Nairn since 2003.
He said: “I am honoured to have been elected to serve Nairn again as its provost. I enjoyed my previous spell in office and I am looking forward to continuing to serve my community in this important role.”
