Plockton date for `Contours Of Cairngorm' with Mhairi Hall Trio and Patsy Reid

On Saturday 28th September ‘Contours of Cairngorm’ by Mhairi Hall Trio and Patsy Reid will be performed in Plockton High School at 8pm in a joint promotion with the National Centre of Excellence in Traditional Music. Contours of Cairngorm brings together four of Scotland’s most celebrated traditional musicians: pianist Mhairi Hall, fiddler/violinist Patsy Reid, guitarist Michael Bryan and percussionist Fraser Stone.   Originally performed at Celtic Connections 2011 alongside the renowned Edinburgh Quartet, this piece of music seamlessly unites the Scottish traditional and classical genres.

This performance will also feature all the students of Sgoil Chiùil na Gàidhealtachd, and in addition Contours of Cairngorm is recruiting local string players to assume the role of the quartet, and create a larger string section to perform in the concert alongside the Mhairi Hall Trio and Patsy Reid.  Anyone who plays the fiddle, violin, viola, cello, and is of a Grade 4 standard (or equivalent), can apply. This special project hopes to attract all ages and abilities, whilst ensuring the experience will be of equal benefit to all. You should be comfortable with reading music.

During the day of the 28th, the applicants will participate in a full day workshop to learn the music under the expertise of Patsy, Mhairi, Michael and Fraser.  That evening they will perform in the concert alongside the four professional musicians and students of NCETM. This excellent opportunity will be extremely beneficial to all bowed string players interested in experiencing traditional music from a classical approach or vice-versa.  As a result, instrumentalists from both backgrounds will find the process highly challenging, rewarding and enjoyable.

Book your tickets for this special concert or apply for the workshop and performance through Rhona Sharp at NCETM on on 01599544706 or rhona.sharp@highland.gov.uk.  Concert tickets are £5. For further information please see www.mhairihall.com/contours.
