Issued by NHS Highland

Pupils at Bun-Sgoil Ghaidhlig Inbhir Nis will be supporting cardiac patients across the area when they take part in this year’s ‘Ramp up the Red’ British Heart Foundation campaign which is being held on Friday 7th February.

Christine Sumner, whose daughters Isla and Kirsty go to the school, works in Coronary Care and Cardiac Rehabilitation for NHS Highland and sees firsthand what those with cardiac problems go through.

She said: “The British Heart Foundation do a great job in supporting those with cardiac problems across the country as well as research so we can learn more about the causes behind it and what will help to prevent it happening.

“I really like the idea of ‘ramping up the red’ and approached my daughters school to see if they would be interested. I was delighted with how enthusiastic the pupil council were about it and I hope Friday will be a fun day that will help raise some money for a great cause.”

As well as wearing as much red as humanly possible there will also be a zumba class held in the morning, heart face painting at break time and a poster competition on Healthy Hearts which is to be judged and prizes given.

Councillor for Inverness Ness side Alasdair Christie who is Chair of the Council’s Adult and Children’s Services Committee welcomed the pupils’ and parents’ initiative to raise awareness of the Ramp up the Red campaign he said: “The Council’s Programme for Administration fully supports the need to get children physically active from an early age to help avoid heart disease in later life.”
