Beach litter rugby tackled

Over forty locals from Caithness Boys under 16s and Wick High School girls rugby teams, including parents and coaches, came together to undertake a sponsored beach clean at Dunnet Beach.

A huge quantity of rubbish from plastic pipe to broken lobster creels and countless bags of smaller items were removed from the beach.

The Highland Council’s Sutherland and Caithness Countryside Ranger Paul Castle said: “With so many helpers on the day we managed to clean the entire length of the beach. I cannot thank them all enough for their sterling efforts. A special mention must go to Jim Macmillan for bringing his tractor and trailer, Highland Council TEC Services for providing the skip and bags and to everyone who sponsored the teams.”

The money raised through sponsorship will help pay for trips south for both rugby teams in the coming spring.
