Issued by BEAR Scotland

The second phase of the main Kessock Bridge upgrade started on 10th February 2014. The twenty week programme will see a contraflow on the northbound carriageway as well as a reduced speed limit of 30 mph. The works represent an investment of £13.2m from Transport Scotland.

Work planned for the week ahead

Traffic Management and Diversions

• The southbound carriageway and footpath/cycleway is closed
• A contraflow system is in operation on the northbound carriageway
• Pedestrian and cyclist diversions are in place on the northbound footpath/cycleway
• Average delays during the morning peak in the first week of the works have been around 45 minutes. The situation is being monitored and motorists are being encouraged to use alternatives such as public transport as much as possible. Outwith the morning peak delays have generally been minimal.
• There was noticeably less traffic this morning as a result of the half term school break.
• There were no noticeable delays in connection with Saturday’s match at Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Calum Galloway, BEAR Scotland’s Bridges Manager for the North West Unit, said: “We would like to thank commuters for their patience as we appreciate that delays in morning rush hour have been disruptive. The volume of traffic is slightly higher than when the first phase of works started last year and train and bus usage is down, as well as car occupancy.

“We urge members of the public to use public transport wherever possible or also consider car sharing or cycling as alternative options.”
