Progress continues on Torvean projects

The Highland Council has today (Wednesday) published on its web site an application for planning permission in principle for four projects in the Torvean area of Inverness. It can viewed on e-planning at: http://wam.highland.gov.uk/wam/ by inserting 14/00049/PIP into the search tool.

The application covers the re-location of Torvean Golf Course at Charleston as a result of some of the existing course being required for the proposed new Inverness West Link road; the creation of a new sports hub on part of the golf course (holes 10-13); an extension to Kilvean Cemetery and the provision of parkland adjacent to the proposed new sports hub at Torvean.

The Council has also submitted an updated/expanded Environmental Statement covering the four projects in addition to the Inverness West Link.  The original Environmental Statement was submitted in October 2013 when the planning application for the Inverness West Link was lodged.

The public has until 17 February to comment on the new planning in principle application and the expanded Environmental Statement.

A Council spokesman said a project manager would be appointed soon to take forward the sports hub project.  The manager’s role would be to liaise with interested sporting groups and potential funding sources and assist the Council with the project development and delivery.

He said: “The Council is committed to maintaining the momentum on the four Torvean projects, which are focused on enhancing recreational facilities in the Torvean area.  Good progress is being made on all fronts.”
