Structural maintenance resurfacing works A9 Lynwilg Junction
Issued by BEAR Scotland NW
Works start Monday 17th February 2014 for up to 4 weeks
Resurfacing works worth £550,000 will soon be underway on the A9 to the south of Aviemore.
A 1.5km section of the A9 is to be resurfaced on behalf of Transport Scotland to restore structural integrity and improve the quality of the surface for the safety of road users.
The works will start on Monday 17th February and are due for completion by the 14th of March. Every effort will be made to complete the works ahead of schedule.
Whilst several traffic management options have been considered to reduce disruption to traffic, the carriageway will be reduced to one lane throughout the 4 week programme, between the hours of 7am and 7pm to ensure the safety of the workforce and travelling public.
During the works temporary traffic signal control and a 10mph convoy system will be in place to ensure the safe passage of traffic.
Outwith working hours, traffic management arrangements will vary according to progress of the works, although one lane will remain open as a minimum. A speed restriction of 30mph will also be in place outwith working hours as road users will be running on a temporary road surface.
Commenting on the works, Eddie Ross, BEAR Scotland’s North West Unit Representative said: “This section of the A9 is in particularly poor condition and extensive maintenance work to the carriageway is necessary at this time. The planned works will greatly improve the condition of this road and improve safety for road users.
“We would like to apologise in advance for any disruption caused by these works, and encourage motorists to utilise the Traffic Scotland website, for up to date travel information as well as allowing for slight delays when planning their journey.”
Real-time journey planning information can be obtained by visiting www.trafficscotland.org.
Information signs will be utilised to provide advance notification of the works.
Breedon Aggregates have been contracted to undertake the works which will be supervised by BEAR Scotland.
