Police carrying out bicycle initiative in the Inverness area
Issued by Police Scotland
Police in Inverness are carrying out a bicycle initiative looking at the aspects of both safety and security. Officers will be out and about in Inverness and will also be providing updates through social media.
Bicycle theft is a problem nationwide, and the Highlands are no exception. Most bikes which are stolen are not secured and so, by buying and then using a lock, bicycle owners can significantly reduce the likelihood that their bike will be stolen.
Bikes that are stolen and then abandoned are an ongoing issue for police in Inverness with many of those being handed in often going unclaimed due to the difficulty in identifying the owners.
On Saturday 25 January 2014, Community Beat Officers will be offering bicycle security marking at Falcon Square between 13:00 hours and 15:00 hours along with the chance to obtain a form to register a bike with the police as part of a 'bicycle passport' scheme.
On Tuesday 28 January 2014 and Wednesday 29 January 2014, officers will be carrying out patrols in the Inverness City Centre to offer advice to the public and address any matters that may occur at that time.
Updates will also be posted on the @InvernessPolice Twitter account (www.twitter.com/InvernessPolice) and through the Highland and Islands Divisional Facebook page (www.facebook.com/northern.constabulary).
