Highland Councillors have welcomed the announcement of the return of The Highland Military Tattoo to Fort George near Inverness later this year (4 - 7 September 2014).

Provost of Inverness, Councillor Alex Graham said: “It’s marvellous to see the Tattoo being held again in Inverness and the Highlands after a three year absence. I’m sure this fabulous spectacle in the tremendous and historic setting of Fort George will be greatly enjoyed by local residents and visitors alike.

He added: “The economic boost provided to our area by visitors attending this event will also be a welcome bonus.”

Highland Council’s Armed Forces Veterans Champion, Councillor Carolyn Caddick added: “This is fantastic news for Inverness and the Highlands. Given the strong links within the Tattoo programme with our Highland culture and Armed Forces it is especially fitting that this world class event is coming to the Highland Capital of Scotland. As Armed Forces Veterans Champion I am also especially please that all profits will go to Armed Forces’ charities.”

Highland Military Tattoo Director, Major General Seymour Monro outlined some of the exciting events included in the programme including: an RAF Typhoon fly past; massed pipe bands, military bands and youth pipe bands; fiddlers, an international act; Highland dance set; historical vignettes, armed forces competitions and a fireworks display. He said:

“I would like to thank The Highland Council, the Inverness Common Good Fund, EventScotland and HIE for their strong support to date. They have all recognised what a boost to local contractors and local tourist industries the tattoo will bring. We look forward to welcoming people from far and wide, home and abroad. We intend that this new Highland Military Tattoo will become an annual event as its reputation grows around the world.”
