Tradespark Wood Welcomes Wildlife

Volunteers and Highland Council’s Ranger have been working together to improve Tradespark Woods in Nairn for wildlife. A number of bird boxes have been constructed and put up in trees around the woods to encourage birds to nest there this coming spring.

The project, which has been organised as part of the Tradespark Voluntary Warden Scheme, also plans to build and put up bat and red squirrel boxes in the near future.

Ranger John Orr said: "Tradespark is a great little haven for wildlife on the edge of Nairn. There are lots of mature Scots pines which provide limited opportunities for nesting birds and roosting bats. This project will encourage wildlife to find a home here until the smaller broadleaved trees and shrubs can get established."

The Voluntary Warden Scheme involves local people in assisting to look after the site which is owned and managed by Highland Council’s Planning and Development service.
