Major-General Sir Hector Macdonald Memorial Service
Organised by The Clan Donald Society of the Highlands and Islands, the service took place at the National Memorial Tower, Mitchell Hill Cemetery on Saturday 1st March.
Now in its fourth year, the annual event, which is supported by the Council’s Dingwall and Seaforth Ward discretionary fund, gives thanks for the life and times of Major General Sir Hector Macdonald, KCB., DSO., ADC.,LL.D (1853-1903).
A Pipe Band lead the official Colour Party as it marched up Mitchell Hill before coming to a halt in front of the monument for the laying of the wreath ceremony.
Attending were representatives from the Royal British Legion, the regimental Colour Party and the Royal British Legion’s Pipe Band, Highland Councillors from the Dingwall and Seaforth ward, representative from the office of the Lord Lieutenant , Lord Macdonald of Macdonald, High Chief of Clan Donald and Lady Claire Macdonald and local school representatives. A contingent from Sir Hectors regiment the Gordon Highlanders were also at the event.
