Council puts the brakes on City drivers

Motorists in Inverness are being warned that part time 20mph speed restrictions will be introduced at another three schools in the area, for children’s safety.

The new speed limits will come into force at Inverness High, Hilton and Muirtown Primaries from Monday, 15th May 2006. This addition brings the total number of schools benefiting from part time speed limits in Inverness to 10 and in Highland to 54 at present.

Motorists are reminded that if they speed in the vicinity of Highland schools then the penalties will be tough. The Highland Council, Northern Constabulary and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service (Highlands and Islands Area) are clear that if motorists are caught speeding near Highland schools where a part time 20mph limit is in place, then robust enforcement action will be taken by both the Police and the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service.

Drivers travelling near Inverness High should be aware that the 20mph part time speed limit signs are on Dochfour Drive, Rangemore Road and Montague Row and apply on school days, from 0820 to 0850; 1240 to 1345 and 1525 to 1545.

At Hilton Primary the part time 20mph signs are on Old Edinburgh Road, Temple Crescent, Aird Avenue and Dell Road and the speed limits will apply on school days from 0830 to 0915; 1230 to 1320; and 1445 to 1515.

At Muirtown Primary the part time 20mph signs are on King Brude Road; Charleston Place, Firthview Road and Firthview Drive and the speed limits apply on school days from 0830 to 0915; 1215 to 1315; and 1445 to 1515.

The other schools in Inverness Area with part time 20mph speed restrictions include Balloch, Cannich Bridge, Cauldeen, Cradlehall, Dalneigh, Duncan Forbes and Merkinch Primaries.
