Balnain Pupils' Art Exhibition

An art exhibition by Balnain Primary School pupils goes on show this weekend (Saturday 13th May, 11am) in the community library at Glen Urquhart High School in Drumnadrochit.

The exhibition is the culmination of a year’s work by Balnain School and includes a life-sized Modroc model of a Japanese figure, Japanese fans, fish paintings, sketches on  Antarctica, paintings, drawings, collage, papier mache bowls, paper flower arrangements, carrier bags, and weaving among other exhibits. Local community member, Arthur Fraser who shared his Antarctic experiences with the senior children, hopes to launch the exhibition.

Balnain Primary Head Teacher, Margaret Livingstone said: "We have a three-year plan to celebrate the arts in the community, and this exhibition is the culmination of our first year’s work. Next year we will be undertaking a major concert for the Year of Culture in co-junction with schools within the area, and in the third year a drama production."

"In addition to the art work we hope to display various archival items from school with explanations of their use. Old log books and registers will be available to look at in the library along with photographs of past pupils. We hoped that this exhibition will be of interest to the local community as well as to parents and friends of the school."

The exhibition can be viewed free of charge at Glen Urquhart Community Library on:

Saturdays 10am – 1pm; Mondays 2pm - 5pm; Tuesdays 9am – 1pm and 6pm – 8pm;

Wednesday 2pm – 5pm and 6pm - 8pm; Thursdays 3.30pm – 8pm; and Fridays 9am - 1pm.
