Nairn Town Centre Action Plan

A two day workshop on 30 April and 1 May is aimed at gathering local people’s views on the how best to increase footfall in the town, improve the environment, how buildings are used and how people travel.  This will help the Council to draw up an Action Plan for the town centre.

Local communities are being asked for their views on issues such as:

• the layout and design of buildings, streets and open spaces;
• methods of travel to, from and around the town centre; and
• the shops, services and facilities in the town centre, as well as the type of jobs on offer.

The Nairn Town Centre Action Plan event will take place at The Courthouse, High Street, Nairn on Wednesday 30 April between 9.15am and 7pm and Thursday 1 May between 9.15am and 7.30pm.  Full details for all of these events can be found on The Highland Council Website at www.highland.gov.uk where people can also find a simple online questionnaire to submit their views in advance of the event.  The ideas received will then be considered by members of the community who attend the event.

Councillor Thomas Prag, Chairman of the Planning Development and Infrastructure Committee, said: “We want everyone who cares for the town centre to bring along their ideas of how to keep it a distinctive, active place where people will want to spend time and money.”

Thanks to funding from Scottish Government, the Council has recruited a team of specialist designers and surveyors from the Halcrow Group (CH2M Hill) who will help to translate everyone’s ideas and ambitions for the future of their town centres into a shared Action Plan.
