Refurbishment of Strathburn House, Gairloch

A proposed £350,000 refurbishment of Strathburn House, Gairloch, has prompted The Highland Council to seek alternative accommodation for the 13 residents during the 35-week period the residential home will need to close.

The Council is seeking suitable, accessible and, ideally, en-suite accommodation in the Gairloch area or within a 45-minute drive.

In order to ensure minimum disruption to residents, the Council is seeking accommodation at no more than two different locations and ideally at a single location. Any accommodation identified by the Council as being potentially suitable, will be required to be approved by the Care Commission and any other relevant agency prior to use.

Strathburn House is one of 19 care homes for older people across Highland run by the Council.

In a second phase of refurbishment going ahead in the current financial year, the Council is also upgrading Pulteneytown, Wick, and the MacKintosh Centre, Mallaig.

In a first phase, the Council spent £1.5 million on Bayview (Thurso), Melness, Seaforth (Golspie) and Dailmhor (Strontian).
