City centre conveniences open for the season
The successful bidder to run the toilets in 2014 is Happy Tours who held the contract last year. The funding will allow them to open the free and disabled friendly facilities from April to September seven days a week from 10am to 4pm.
The average daily usage of the Castle Wynd toilets last year from April to September was 175, with 80% of visitors tourists and 20% local people.
The Inverness Central ward members are supportive of the decision made by the grant sub-committee and are delighted the toilets are to reopen.
City Leader, Councillor Ian Brown said: “It is great news that the toilets are now open each day of the week for what will be a very busy season. During last June and July up to 300 people a day were making use of them and as Inverness will be hosting various events which will attract a large number of tourists, I’m sure the facilities will prove to be just as popular this year.”
“I’m pleased that Happy Tours, who did a great job running them last year, have been successful in getting the 2014 contract. Not only are they toilets located in a prime site which is very handy for the coach drop-off points but feedback from staff at key tourist attractions in the city centre suggest an increase in visitors due to the toilets being open for the last two summer seasons.”
