A new outdoor gym with one of the best locations and views in Scotland has opened in Nairn.
Ten items of outdoor gym equipment, ranging from weights and skiing machines, are positioned at the Links, overlooking stunning views of Nairn beach and the Moray Firth.

Former Nairn County youth footballer, Jason MacLean, who recently competed at the Commonwealth Games, came along on 20 November to officially open the gym, test the equipment and sample the views. One of four Inverness Harriers representatives at Glasgow 2014, Jason was one of the youngest competitors on the track during the Commonwealth Games Para sports event, lining up in the T37 100m at just 18 years of age.

Cllr Liz MacDonald, Leader of the Nairn, Badenoch and Strathspey Area Committee congratulated Jason on his achievements and thanked him for helping to open the gym. She went on to say, “This must surely be the gym with one of the best views in the world!  It is already a big hit with locals and visitors in Nairn. The fact that it is in a terrific location and completely free, I hope, will encourage more people to give it a try.”

The outdoor gym, which is open and free to everyone, was funded by Highland Council Community Services, supported by the Nairn Ward Discretionary Budget.

The exciting new facility grew from discussions on provision of play equipment in Nairn with the local Councillors and Iain Reid, Highland Council Performance Inspection Officer, at one of the regular Ward business meetings.  Nairn Councillors, keen to enhance amenities at the Nairn Links, were very supportive of the idea of providing outdoor fitness equipment for a range of ages and abilities.

Steven Clelland, Manager at the Nairn Leisure Centre, was approached for his input and expertise and High Life Highland supported the development and the location being sited adjacent to the Leisure Centre.
