Still time to comment on CaSPlan Main Issues Report

Communities are being reminded that the consultation on the Caithness and Sutherland Local Development Plan (CaSPlan) Main Issues Report continues, with any comments needing to be received by The Highland Council no later than 12 noon on Thursday 29 January 2015.

A number of consultation events have already been held across Caithness and Sutherland, where people have been able to speak to planners about development options in their settlements and the important issues relevant to their communities. Anyone who has comments they wish to be considered, whether they came to one of the events or not, is encouraged to send their comments to the Council before the deadline.

A final event is being held in Brora on Monday 12 January 2015 in the Community Centre, Johnstone Place. A round table discussion workshop will run from 6.30 – 8.30pm.  Display boards will be available for viewing from 5.30pm with staff there to answer any questions. Anyone with an interest in the future of Brora, Golspie, Rogart or Helmsdale is welcome to attend.

David Cowie from the Council’s Development Plans Team explains: “The workshop will provide an opportunity for the public to discuss the development strategy and key site options set out in the Main Issues Report.  We will also be using the workshop to explore priorities and potential projects for each settlement.  These will then be used to shape the priorities to be identified in the new Plan.”

Leader of the Caithness and Sutherland Area Committee, Councillor Deirdre Mackay said: “This is chance for everyone to help shape the future of the places where they live and work so I encourage as many people as possible to come along to the workshop next week. The focus of the event will very much be on looking at local short, medium and long-term priorities.”

The easiest way to read the Main Issues Report is on the CaSPlan webpage www.highland.gov.uk/casplan where comments can also be submitted.  Copies of the CaSPlan Main Issues Report are also available at each Council Service Point and Public Library in the area.
