Queen’s New Year Honours for Highland Council employees
One current and two former employees of The Highland Council have been awarded in the Queen’s New Year Honour’s list for their services to education, child welfare and their community.
Ms Fiona Sellar, Principal Teacher of Music, Art and Design at Nairn Academy received an MBE for services to education, music and charity in Nairn. Ms Sellar moved to the Highlands in 1998 to become Principal Teacher of Music at Nairn.
Former Director of Social Work Ms Harriet Dempster also received an OBE for services to Child Welfare in Scotland. Ms Dempster retired from Highland Council after 36 years’ service in social work and 11 years as Director of Social Work Services.
Former Depute Head Teacher of Thurso High School Mrs Heather McLean received an MBE for services to the community in Thurso, Caithness. Mrs McLean retired from Thurso High School in 2006.
