Cheap Travel Just The Ticket For Young Highlanders

A total of 6,000 young Highlanders will be able to enjoy cheaper travel on buses, trains and ferries thanks to a new Concessionary Travel Scheme introduced by the Scottish Parliament.

When it is introduced in January 2007, the new scheme will give all 16-18 year-olds:

• a third off single bus fares across the country;

• a free rail card entitling them to a third off rail travel within Scotland

And those resident on Scottish islands will receive two free return journeys to the mainland each year.

Full time volunteers up to the age of 25 who are actively contributing to their community will also be included in the scheme.

Those young people in Highland who wish to take advantage of the scheme can pick up an application form from their school office or their nearest Highland Council Service Point.

Verification and processing of applications will be administered only at Service Points.
