Ness Islands, Inverness re-opens

The Ness Islands in Inverness are to re-open this evening at 5pm (Friday 20 March 2015) for public access.

The popular public amenity area - which is also a well-used pedestrian and cycling access point across the River Ness - has been closed since high winds on 8-9 March caused major damage.

Highland Council has carried out works to remove fallen trees from the footpaths. The area is now passable with care.

Some paths still need patching repairs and these works will begin on Monday 23 March. While the patching works are taking place, access will be maintained to the Islands but the public are asked to heed signs and avoid cordoned-off areas where works continue.
