The Highland Council pays tribute to Charles Kennedy
The Highland Council is today united in paying
tribute to Charles Kennedy on the sad news of his sudden and untimely death.
Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, David Alston said: “Charles Kennedy was a
man of principle and compassion. Always rooted in the Highlands, he stood
on that ground to look to the world beyond. He was passionate in his
commitment to Europe, to international justice and peace, and to a fairer
society in Scotland and the UK. He will be sadly missed and long
remembered”.
Leader of the Labour Group, Jimmy Gray said: “Charles Kennedy was one of the finest politicians the Highlands has ever produced. A wonderful communicator, a very very warm person and will be sadly missed by all those involved in politics and the wider community across the Highlands and the whole of the UK”.
Leader of the SNP Group, Maxine
Smith said: “Charles was a well known and popular figure in his community
and was a seasoned politician. 55 is far too young to lose anyone and my
thoughts go out to his family”.
Leader of the Independent Group, Margaret Davidson said: “Charlie was a most
decent man and a fine Highlander. A man of intellect and principle, but always
a man for the people. We will all miss him, but I think Lochaber
most of all. He was loved and respected by his communities”.
