American strings specialist makes music with Primary pupils

Eighteen pupils from  Dalneigh Primary in Inverness spent last Tuesday working with American string specialist and project facilitator Terry Shade.  Ms. Shade presents music workshops throughout the USA and is on a short visit to Scotland.

Over the session she worked with the primary 4 and 5 pupils and The Highland Council strings Instructors, presenting the principles of her ‘Strings Basics’ Curriculum.

Norman Bolton, Music Development Officer for The Highland Council said: “When we were offered the opportunity to have Terry work with our strings staff, it was an offer certainly not to be refused.  Sharing teaching techniques is vital to the continued success of what we do.  The pupils from Dalneigh Primary were engaged and enthusiastic throughout the day and Terry was very impressed at their abilities even at this early stage of their tuition.”

Terry was delighted by the awesome reception she received from Highland staff and pupils, saying that it was the happiest group she had encountered during her visit to Scotland. The Dalneigh Primary pupils are all taught by Highland Council Instructor, Eleanor Cameron who was extremely proud of the way the pupils worked throughout the day.
