Lochaber Schools Pipe Band set to entertain over the summer
Lochaber Schools Pipe Band has begun a busy summer of engagements. The band, based at Lochaber High School, Fort William performs at Highland Games, gala days, street parades and charity events in and around the Lochaber area.
Members of the band are schoolchildren between 10 and 18 years of age from around the Lochaber area who receive tuition from The Highland Council’s Instrumental Service Instructor, Margaret MacMaster.
Throughout the summer months the band will also be performing most Tuesday and Thursday evenings in Fort William’s town centre.
The Highland Council’s Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton said: “All the schools pipe bands that are run as an extension to the regular tuition in schools provide discipline, confidence and responsibility for all those involved. They are always well received in their communities and are gaining a growing reputation for excellence beyond Highland boundaries. When added to all the other music groups available to Highland school pupils as part of the Tuition Service, we can be very proud of the wide-ranging opportunities and high standards promoted across the area”.
