Sound of Silence
It’s not very often that the young musicians involved in the Council’s Highland Young Musicians groups are encouraged to be silent and this is certainly not something they would expect as a reaction from their enthusiastic and supportive audiences when they perform. However, the Friends of Highland young Musicians are currently encouraging as many people as possible to support the hundreds of Highland’s most talented young musicians in these groups by bidding in a ‘silent auction’ which is running over the next month.
There are a wide variety of lots to suit all budgets and all money raised will be used to support the transport and travel costs involved in getting the musicians to and from rehearsals and performances.
The auction site can be found at: http://www.jumblebee.co.uk/highlandyoungmusicianssilentauction
Although Highland Young Musician rehearsals don’t start until school session begins again in August, they are in for a busy time as ‘snas and Highland Youth Pipe Band prepare for their commitment to the Highland Military Tattoo in September, and all the groups will be preparing for their Concerts Festival in Aviemore’s Macdonald Resort on Saturday 21st November.
Full information about all the groups can be found at: http://www.highland-young-musicians.com/
Highland Young Musicians groups are always keen to develop support from Highland businesses and anyone who would like to discuss possibilities should contact the Council’s Music Development Officer, Norman Bolton at norman.bolton@highland.gov.uk
