Councillor's resignation prompts Aird and Loch Ness Ward by-election.
Following
the resignation of Councillor Drew Hendry (SNP), a by-election will be held to
elect a Member for The Highland Council’s Ward 13: Aird and Loch Ness.
Ward 13 is a four-member ward. The other members are Helen Carmichael
(Independent), Margaret Davidson (Independent) and Hamish Wood (Scottish
Liberal Demoncrat).
Following his election as the Member of Parliament for the Inverness, Nairn,
Badenoch and Strathspey constituency at the UK Parliamentary election on 7 May
2015, Councillor Hendry stands down from The Highland Council with effect from
Monday 20 July 2015.
The Returning Officer and Chief Executive of The Highland Council, Steve Barron
will be considering the most suitable date for a by election.
Mr Barron thanked Drew Hendry for his Leadership of the Council over the last
three years, and his many achievements during this time representing the
Highlands.
The political representation of the Council is: Highland Alliance (5);
Independent (32); Labour (8); Liberal Democrat (11); Scottish National Party
(20); Non-aligned (3).
Total number of Elected Members 80.
