Highland welcomes outcome of Named Person - Judicial review
The Highland Council welcomes the determination today (3 Sep 2015) of the Judicial Review of the Named Person, and the endorsement of the Named Person Service.
The Service has been in place across The Highland Council area since 2010, as requested by families as part of the implementation of the ‘Getting it right for every child’ programme. It has led to more children and families receiving earlier and effective support, and fewer children requiring complex interventions.
Bill Alexander, Highland Council’s Director Care and Learning, said:
“The Named Person Service ensures that families with any concerns about their child’s wellbeing, know where to take that concern, and that they get good advice and support. It is proven in practice, has been welcomed by parents, and I am pleased that the value of the Named Person role is reaffirmed by today’s decision.
He added: “It is unfortunate that there has been some confusion about aspects of the role, and I believe that parents will be reassured by today’s announcement.”
