Still time to vote for projects to benefit Lochaber young people

People living in Lochaber are being reminded that there is still time for them to cast their votes and get a share of £10,000 for their favourite projects to support young people in the area.

The Lochaber Youth Fund pilot to test a method of participatory budgeting has been well received in the Lochaber Community with 42 bids coming forward to face the public vote.

So far over 1000 votes have been cast at the half way point.  Lochaber residents over the age of 11 have until 5pm on Sunday to cast their vote on-line or by post.

After the public vote closes, panels of young people from each of Wards 12 & 22 High School catchment areas will meet to decide who they feel are the most deserving bids.  The panels will have a 25% influence over the public vote to ensure that young people have a strong voice in the process from their own areas.

Once all the votes are collated, there will be one overall winning project which will receive a financial boost from the £10,000 pot. Runner up projects in each of the four school catchment areas will also be in line to receive funding support.

Anyone still yet to vote can do so by visiting www.highland.gov.uk/YouthPB where a summary of all 42 bids are given.

The results will be announced on Wednesday 23 September.
