Appointment of Convener to Highland and Western Isles Valuation Joint Board
Councillor Ken Gowans was
elected as Convener of the Highland and Western Isles Valuation Joint Board on
17 September 2015.
Councillor Gowans replaces the previous Convener, Councillor Helen Carmichael,
who remains on the Board, but has stepped down as Convener after 8 years in the
role, to focus on her duties as Provost of Inverness.
Vice Convener of the Board is Councillor John Mackay, Comhairle nan Eilean
Siar.
The Highland and Western Isles Valuation Joint Board is responsible for the
administrative oversight of the Assessor and Electoral Registration Officer’s
activities, in particular setting the annual budget.
The Board meets four times per year, with meetings in Inverness or Stornoway.
There are ten Board members with representation with eight members from The
Highland Council and two members from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar.
Councillor Gowans said: “I am delighted to have been elected as Convenor of the
Joint Valuation Board by my fellow councillors from The Highland and the
Western Isles Councils. I give my thanks to Councillor Helen Carmichael not
only for her excellent contribution, but also for way in which she carried out
her role when Convenor. I am delighted Helen has chosen to remain a Board
member.”
