Highland Junior Golf Championships at Spey Valley
A total of 60 young golfers took part in the Highland Junior Golf Championships held at Spey Valley Golf Course, Aviemore, on Thursday 12 October.
Lossiemouth Academy won the team event for the Bruce Robertson Trophy with William MacKay (81), Kyle Godman (82), and Brent MacLennan (84) returning a gross team score of 247, ahead of Buckie High School on 255 and Fortrose Academy, winners over the past two years, on 259.
Ross Mackenzie from Tain won the Duncan Allan Quaich for recording the lowest boys' scratch score of 81, thanks to having the better inward half of four players with the same total. Runner-up was William MacKay, Lossiemouth High, and third was Peter Ramsay, Elgin Academy.
Kelsey MacDonald, from Nairn Academy, retained the Grant Trophy for the best girls' scratch score. Her 76 was the best of the day and was 15 shots ahead of the field.
The event was hosted and sponsored by Macdonald Aviemore Highland Resort and the prizes were presented by Councillor Drew Millar, Vice-Convener of The Highland Council’s Education Culture and Sport Committee.
Willie MacKay, Highland Golf Manager, said: “We were delighted to have the courtesy of this wonderful new course for the fourth year of this event. It proved a stern challenge but it was a fantastic opportunity for young golfers to play this challenging David Thomas-designed course.”
The championship has previously been played at Skibo (twice) and The Nairn Golf Course.
