Work on Ross-shire railway bridge to begin
Works are due to commence on the construction of a new £3.3 million road crossing of the railway in Muir of Ord, at the beginning of December 2015.
The construction contract, awarded to George Leslie Ltd, will replace the bridge that carries the A862 road over the main Inverness to Dingwall railway line.
Works consist of the construction of a new 2 span bridge across the railway, supporting abutments, pier and approach roads, all to the north of the existing crossing. Once complete this will remove the existing single lane traffic signal restriction which is currently in place. Service diversions, drainage works, traffic signals, improvement to junction layouts and traffic calming measures also form part of the contract.
Once the works are all completed and the new crossing is in use, the existing bridge and its approaches will be removed. Works are expected to last 18 months.
The Highland Council and George Leslie Ltd will be working closely with the community to ensure any disruption is kept to a minimum.
