Leader expresses concerns over Boundary Commission Review
The Leader of the Highland
Council, Cllr Margaret Davidson, has written to Marco Biagi MSP, Minister for
Local Government & Community Empowerment to express the widespread concerns
over the methodology being applied in the Local Government Boundary Commission
review.
The Leader advised the Minister of the considerable unease across local
government over the way in which Local Government Boundary Commission is
undertaking the current review of local government boundaries.
Speaking about the review the Leader said: “I am mindful that the Local
Government Boundary Commission have an independent statutory role to fulfil and
it would be inappropriate to seek to bring pressure on them to change objective
recommendations, however there are widespread concerns over the methodology
being applied in this review. It is based on numbers alone and cuts across
communities and we have examples of that in North West Sutherland and Caithness
and Cawdor. I therefore felt it was right to bring this to the attention of the
Minister.”
